New York, NY (March 26, 2007) Jazz at Lincoln Center will feature some of the greatest talents on trumpet today in two concerts entitled The Many Moods of Miles Davis featuring the quintets of trumpeters Ryan Kisor and Terence Blanchard on May 11, followed by trumpeter Nicholas Payton opposite bassist/producer Marcus Miller with Wallace Roney on May 12 in Rose Theater in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home to Jazz at Lincoln Center. This series, dedicated to Miles Davis, will offer two separate evenings featuring four distinctive periods of the chameleon-like jazz legend's career. The music will exemplify the chronological development of Davis' groups over the years. On May 11, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra trumpeter Ryan Kisor will perform sections from Davis' bebop and cool period. This band consists of Kisor (trumpet), Sherman Irby (alto), Peter Zak (piano), John Webber (bass) and Willie Jones III (drums). Then trumpeter Terence Blanchard will interpret the first incarnation of the Miles Davis Quintet, which included John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.

On May 12, trumpeter Nicholas Payton's ensemble highlights Davis' music from his latter quintets and more. Then the concert moves into the electric Davis years and the 'grand finale' featuring incomparable bass player and producer Marcus Miller, who played with Davis from 1968-1991 and the ever-impressive trumpeter Wallace Roney, plus explosive guitarist Vernon Reid.

Marcus Miller said, "I'm excited to make this tribute to Miles' 'electric years.' During the time I spent working with him I was constantly impressed by how he embraced change." Miller continues, "What makes Miles so impressive is how he managed to change his sound, not once but numerous times. And, with each change, he creates a completely new set of followers (musicians and listeners) completely devoted to the new sound." Of his contribution to the program, Miller says, "We're going to outline a few of the changes Miles' music went through during the 70's and 80's."
