Venue: Across County Durham (England UK)
1st - 15th July - No, it is not yet another Jazz Festival and yet it has Jazz a plenty, BRASS the newest festival on a busy circuit is full of wonderful surprises and for the ardent Jazz fan there are some real gems! Dennis Rollins, Brazz Brothers, Mnozil, Oren Marshall are all hidden amongst a stunningly diverse programme of music all featuring Brass.
This unique festival BRASS celebrates all forms of brass music from Bulkan Gypsy Brass to Funk, Jazz, Punk Brass and Brass Rap and the 10th anniversary concert of Acid Brass! In many cases the bounderies are blured and folk meets Jazz and Jazz meets Rap but that's OK for it's not after all another Folk, Jazz or rock Festival this is BRASS and proud of it! A look at the Festivals Myspace site (linked to its main site) and a trip through there friends show a fast growing market out there! An undercurrent in the music world lead by the rise of young American bands and the increased awareness of Balkan Gypsy Brass and Indian Bollywood Brass Bands.
In pubs across the UK bands are increasingly featuring brass form 'Dubovnik' in Bristol, Lazzy Habits in London or young-up-and-comers like Weapons of Brass Destruction there is a new awakening for the sound of trumpets, trombones and even electric tubas! Alongside the already mentioned jazz line up Serbia's top band the internationally aclaimed Boban i Marko Markovic Orkestra will be performing at the Festival. Then at one of Britains most traditional events 'the Durham Miners Gala' the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band from India will march with a banner and play alongside over 30 traditional brass bands from mining villages across the uk in this 124th year of the Gala
