81ST BIRTHDAY OF WORLD-RENOWNED, LATE JAZZ ICON MILES DAVIS CELEBRATED BY FAMILY AND FANS AT HOLLYWOOD’S ROCKWALK
Internationally renowned late jazz icon Miles Davis, widely regarded as one of the most innovative, influential and highly respected figures in jazz, was celebrated on the date marking his 81st birthday (Saturday, May 26). Son, Erin Davis along with nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr., placed flowers and candles near his bronze bust on the Hollywood's RockWalk, where fans also came to pay their respect.
For six decades, Davis has embodied all that is cool – in his music, art, fashion romance and in his mere presence. The eight-time Grammy Award winner who marked the sole jazz artist to be inducted into the 2006 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and was also honored in 2006 by Hollywood’s RockWalk, remains the sole ambassador of the trumpet. No one has ever tried to wrestle the trumpet’s legacy away from Davis (nor can they). He continues to defy categorization and commands national magazine covers in honor of his significant and highly innovative contribution to music. The hip hop community continuously sample his work and many of the key indie/rock bands are utilizing the trumpet to further define their sound. The pop cultural icon has also inspired the production of a forthcoming biopic, with Golden Globe winning actor Don Cheadle set to portray Davis.
A new re-mix project entitled Evolution of the Groove featuring Nas and Santana is scheduled for release this summer on Sony Legacy.
