JAZZ JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION

NOMINATES CONCORD , TELARC AND HEADS UP

FOR SEVEN JAZZ AWARDS 

For immediate release

June 11, 2007 Concord Records, Telarc International and Heads Up International, leaders in the jazz recording industry, scored seven nominations from the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) for its 2007 Jazz Awards

The JJA nominated more than 200 jazz musicians, recordings, labels, producers, concert presenters, authors, broadcasters, photographers and new media outlets for recognition of achievements in 2006-2007. Winners will be determined by a voting pool of approximately 400 JJA members. The eleventh annual awards ceremony will take place in New York City , date and place, to be determined. 

Concord Music Group’s finalists for 2007 JJA Jazz Awards are:

Michael Brecker: Musician of the Year

Fearless Leader - John Coltrane: Jazz Reissue of the Year, boxed set 

The Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings - Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane:

Jazz Reissue of the Year, boxed set

 Kurt Elling: Male Jazz Singer of the Year

 Tierney Sutton: Female Jazz Singer of the Year 

Nancy Wilson: Female Jazz Singer of the Year

Joey DeFrancesco: Organist/Keyboardist of the Year

 “Michael Brecker is one of the most emulated saxophonists of the last 20 years,” says Dave Love , President of Heads Up International. “He has single-handily brought forth a new group of young musicians to keep the art of jazz alive. His recognition by the critics for his achievements is a further testament to his influences amongst so many.”

“We’re extremely proud of all of our nominated artists and everyone involved in the nominated projects,” says John Burk, executive VP of A&R of Concord Music Group. “It is quite an honor for their work to be recognized by such a prestigious organization.”
