Dec. 8, 2007 - WYBE, Public Television will air Pipes of Peace on the following dates: December 2007 Monday, December 3 - 3 a.m. Saturday December 8 - 11 p.m. WYBE operates analog channel 35 and digital channel 34 in the Greater Philadelphia area. The station broadcasts to 3.9 million households in 11 counties including NJ and Delaware. Pipes of Peace, George Manney's intimate portrait of Philadelphia musician, Rufus Harley, the world's first jazz bagpipe player who ignored conventional musical genres. This documentary interweaves a rare intimate interview with Rufus Harley in his home along with insights and memories from family members, friends and many great musicians. His music, spirit and philosophy are captured. We explore his struggle, success, philosophy, and his influential jazz bagpipe playing in his community, the nation and throughout the world. Rufus often handed out miniatures of the Liberty Bell & copies of the U.S. Constitution during his tours abroad. Harley's message of sustaining peace for all cultures is as relevant today as his message was in the 60's and 70's.
