Bassist Tiziano Zanotti releases his new solo album

In January 2008, the Italian indie label Echoes released its second album: “Gestire lo Spazio” of bassist Tiziano Zanotti.

A disc like no other: the musician has conceived, composed and played the music of this album on an electric bass only, with the supplement of a few and quite singular electronic effects and the unexpected and fleeting “injection” of an acoustic piano. All pieces are by the bassist himself, except tracks 6-13 by Tiziano Zanotti/Nicola Ciarmatori.

This solo bass project had been around for quite a long time. It was first conceived as a live show, then was further developed and structured with all the energy required to face such an interesting challenge. It was a challenge indeed, to show that the electric bass can be a valuable instrument in its own right on a whole disc, able to hold the listener's attention with no support other than a few and unobtrusive effects and percussion sounds (overdubbing is only used in the final track). In other words: can the bass be a full solo instrument, as powerful and expressive as a piano or a guitar? Well, the answer is yes, if the bassist is Tiziano Zanotti.

“Gestire lo Spazio” is a sophisticated, varied, and deep disc. It evidences the artist's full expressive maturity as well as his perfect technique mastery. It will immediately capture your attention with the beauty and fluency of its pieces, while hiding an underlying formal complexity, the incredibly varied shades produced by the bass, its familiarity with jazz and classical music while always looking for new sounds and effects, to name just a few of its distinctive characteristics. At the basis, a deep plunge into the artist's music world to develop his compositions, modify balances, explore new harmonies, all the time seeking to exploit the bass's full potential.

A valuable and original album, not to be missed by every bassist and generally by the lovers of borderless, beautiful music.
