Toronto, ON – Jesse Cook’s dedication to world music is being honoured once again with 2 Juno nominations, in addition to his debut performance in Dubai this month and new US tour. Cook is nominated in both the World Music Album of the Year (for the EMI Music Canada release Frontiers, which debuted at #1 on the World Music Charts and held this position for the majority of 2007) and Music DVD of the Year (for 'One Night At The Metropolis') categories.
“I am thrilled to be performing for my fans across the globe and can’t wait to perform in Dubai, and we’re focusing on Europe and Asia next! Juno nominations are always of great importance to me, I am proud to be in the company of such talented Canadians who create outstanding world music,” states Cook.
A platinum-selling artist, Cook will be opening the Dubai International Jazz Festival in February, headlining at the Madinat Jumeirah Outdoor Amphitheater. Following this, he will return to North America to commence a coast-to-coast US tour in March, with Asian and European tour dates to be announced. Revered for his ground-breaking guitar skills Cook blends Brazilian and Cuban percussion, Cajun accordion, classical cello and pop vocals with his own rumba flamenca style, creating a medley of soundtracks for various cultures and nations. From London to Cairo, he has collaborated with some of the world’s best musicians.
Born in Paris, France, Cook’s love of music was developed at the tender age of three. Traveling through Europe, he was exposed to an array of cultural and musical influences, including such greats as the legendary Gipsy Kings (with whom he shared a now famous jam session on a rooftop in the French city of Arles). Many years later his passion for gypsy guitar lead him back to Seville, Spain to further hone his craft. This time provided great inspiration for his latest album Frontiers (which debuted at #3 on the pop chart in Saudi Arabia). On this album Cook contributes personal interpretations of “Llorona” a Mexican folk song (featuring Latin-Canadian vocalist Amanda Martinez), and Bob Dylan’s classic “It Ain’t Me Babe” (with Canadian vocalist Melissa McClelland), in addition to collaborating with Egyptian-Canadian singer Maryem Tollar on ""Europa”.
Jesse Cook will be available for select interview opportunities (in French and English) upon request.
