In 1974, Gary Burton first introduced to the world a young up and coming guitarist who would revolutionize the traditional jazz guitar sound. Together the guitarist and the quartet would become the progenitors of the jazz-fusion phenomenon attracting large audiences from both sides of the jazz-rock spectrum. That guitarist was Pat Metheny.

Winner of 17 Grammy Awards, Metheny is widely considered the pre-eminent jazz guitarist of his generation. Since the release of his highly influential debut album, Bright Size Life (1975), Metheny continues to redefine the genre utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Today, his versatility is almost nearly without peer on any instrument.

Burton and Metheny will be joined by Steve Swallow on bass and Antonio Sanchez on drums.

The sounds of jazz will have feet tappin’ and fingers snappin’ as the 23rd edition of the TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival swings its way into summer, running from June 26 July 5, 2009. Be a part of the action as more than 1,500 musicians, performing in over 350 concerts, descend upon Toronto for the city’s largest music festival. Get jazzed this summer!
