Review: Fred Hamilton, guitarist, has created a nice, educational book for developing intuitive improvisation. The Earl Harvin Trio performs the music on the CD, featuring Earl Harvin on drums, Dave Palmer on piano, and Fred Hamilton on guitar. Fred Hamilton is the composer. There is an interview included on the CD.
Individual exercises are given. Transcription exercises are discussed as are the workshops. Chapter 2 concert is one of special interest with its unique jazz motifs, and its title explains it in concise terms: "Ancient of Days." This composition is written for piano and bass.
Other songs include "A Face in the Mist," and "I Knew You Before." Each song has its own unique charm, and approach.
A nice work, it shows the importance of intuition in the musical process. This book will appeal to different musicians for different reasons, and the music is enjoyable to perform.
