Review:

William Bay is one of Mel Bay Publication's most prolific authors. His Complete Jazz Trumpet Book is quite possibly one of his finest works yet.  This one-stop-shop contains all the exercises needed to learn jazz trumpet.

The purpose of this book is to help the trumpet player to read and interpret jazz music.  As such, Bay succeeds brilliantly. The chord and scale studies are helpful in evert aspect. Bay's explanation of wind control and balance is possibly the best in print anywhere. These instructions would benefit many classes of musicians, not just the jazz trumpet player.

Designed as an accesible, hands-on approach with notated music exercises to practice, Mel Bay's Complete Jazz Trumpet Book will be a welcome addition to any trumpeter's musical study. Progressions and scales are shown in a clear manner as is everything in this music instruction book. Unlike most basic instructional books, this one includes a section on composing and performing your own jazz music.

A usable, enjoyable, and thoroughly well-conceived book.  Highly recommended to all trumpet students.
