In this book, she gets into the real nitty-gritty of what it truly means to grow as a musician, and explains in detail what musicians actually need to succeed.
A lively book, filled with much information, her interviews with the following individuals in music will share a lot of insights: Andy Bey, Oscar Brown, Jr., Ruth Brown, Ron Carter, Olu Dara, Brenda Feliciano, Joe Grushecky, Edwin Hawkins, Al Jarreau, David Randolph, Eric Reed, Richard Smallwood, Dr. Billy Taylor, Kenny Washington, Michael Wolff, among others. Each interview is revealing and entertaining.
Personal growth is the emphasis, and as each musician develops it, his or her career will benefit accordingly. The concept of A-team and B-team musicians is introduced. A self-evaluation survey allows musicians to discover whether they are A-team (always working!) or B-team (barely working!)
The late Oscar Brown, Jr. interview is one of the most intriguing in the book. Drive and determination are the major keys to success, and each interview reveals how the musician accomplished it.
Well-worth your reading time, this book reveals many interesting facets of the music industry. It explains what it takes to succeed, and succeed well. There are nineteen chapters in the book, each a gem of a reading experience.
