Review: Corey Christiansen and Kim Bock have created a winning entry with their series of music instruction concerning the style of John Coltrane. Each book lays flat or sits on a music stand, and each book comes with a play-along CD. The series contains the C instruments edition for piano, flute, violin, vibes; the guitar edition; the bass clef edition for upright bass, trombone, bass guitar, cello; the E flat edition for alto saxophone and baritone saxophone; the B flat edition for trumpet, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, and B-flat clarinet. These books work, and teach, and are enjoyable learning experiences. Each carries its own ISBN number and are available from direct order from Mel Bay Publications or various other outlet services.
From a multi-instrumentalist perspective, I find each book has a remarkable clarity for instruction and sharing of ideas for the musician, and each book is invaluable if you are interested in the stylings of virtuoso saxophonist John Coltrane (1926 - 1967). An excellent series.
This is a perfect, flawless introduction to learning jazz stylings of John Coltrane. Whatever instrument or instruments you play, this is a genuine musical learning experience!
