52nd & Broadway by Terry Gibbs

What an interesting 'vibe' ( pardon the pun, I couldn't resist it).........Bebop, Strings, & the legendary vibraphonist, Terry Gibbs! Some of the publicists sending me these great CDS to review, are spoiling me. These CDS review themselves if you consider the innate talent contained therein. Terry is on to something interesting here as he entwines the songs he's chosen for his project with 'strings.' The concept holds up very well. Monk's "Round Midnight' is a fine example, as Terry & the string sectiontake us through an animated up tempo latin version of same. The effect is a resounding......Aaaah Yes!! Gibbs is a journeyman veteran of the bebop era when guys like 'Dizzy' & 'Bird' were inventing & shaping the idiom. Terry came along for the ride nicely, thank you. I can't say enough about the 'craft' Gibbs possesses only to say, musicians of any era can aspire to his artistry. I give the disc an A+!!
