On "Getting Sentimental Over You" It's cadenza time for the Guitar as It opens with a flourish and then swings gracefully... Redd's Vibes comp and then romp on his own with a dynamite solo. Joe Byrd is walking tall, his strength is prevalent throughout this tune. Dorsey's theme is reborn in this fine trio.
Django Reinhardt's classic "Nuages" is both melodic and hypnotic in this lyrical interpretation. Chuck Redd pays homage to Hamp in a superb solo and Byrd again adds the final touch
"Undecided" There is nobody undecided here, as this trio's hip adaptation evokes a feeling of animated conversation among pals, with some good old fashioned hell raising thrown in for good measure.
"I thought About You" A tour de force for Joe Byrd as he introduces the melody beautifully and then solos delightfully. Easy four bar exchanges between the Guitar and Vibes add a cool touch.
"Gypsy Dreams" spotlights Vignola's virtuosity in full force. The notes flew fast and furious, with sensitivity and romance gloriously omnipresent.
It's non stop bop on "Honeysuckle Rose" highlighted by Chuck Redd's dazzling soliloquy and Byrd's Bass muscle.
It doesn't get any better than this. This is a unique trio that simply swings no matter what mode they happen to be in. One listen and the Jazz cognoscenti will be sure to add this (disc) to their collection. It is a true gem.
