It Was A Very Good Year by John Basile

John Basile is a first rate Guitarist and he has assembled a fine cast of characters to spread his message. A prime example of his fluidity and dexterity can be heard on Joe Pass's "Catch Me" Basile's solo is magnificent in both ideation and style, in a word it swings. The Drums of Jason Devlin are a huge asset time-wise and in accompaniment. Jerry Z at the B3 adds oomph to the tune with a meaty solo and the Bass of Nick Misch weaves through it all majestically.

"That Old Feeling" shows the ballad side of John Basile and company, and they make it work in grand style. This tune has a great melody and it was treated soulfully by all.

"Take The Coltrane" was boppish in content and quite the opposite of Trane's endless cacophony. Perhaps this piece should be re-named The Basile Express....Duke's composition was performed as elegantly as Mr. Ellington himself.

This recording is a prime example of fine jazz performed by first class musicians.
