Out Of The Aquarium by Alexandra Caselli

I have had the pleasure of listening to pianist Alexandra Caselli on many occasions in a live setting, and this recording only emphasizes her remarkable talent. Caselli's emotional response on ballads is a study in delicate sensitivity and her ardent / fiery up tempos are marked by strong rhythms and free melodic improvisation.

"Out Of The Aquarium" is an original composition with a melody that catches the interest of the listener right away. Caselli's solo is a gem marked by magnificent ideation and expression. Dick Weller's drum work is a study in sensitivity. This fine drummer has the ability to enhance the soloist with accents and embellishments totally apropos to the message being laid down.

"I Remember You" is a celebrated tune marked by Caselli's extraordinary interpretation. Mr Mercer would be pleased. This is as good as it gets.

"Whiff" Bud Powell is omnipresent as Alexandra Caselli swings with harmonic complexity and innovation. She deftly prunes the non essentials. Again Weller is the straw that stirs this powerful libation with rhythmic significance and style.

This album is pleasure for the ear and manna for the soul.
