Oasis by Mike Longo and the New York State of the Art Jazz Ensem

All of the compositions are written for 17 pieces with some personnel changes on the various tunes.

"Bag Of Bones" is an ode to Milt Jackson and features a solid alto solo by Lee Greene and a Monkish soliloquy by Longo. Great arrangement.

A bluesey "Mike's Lament" in the mode of Count Basie, lopes along in true Basie fashion and is highlighted by a nice fat solo by Tenor man Frank Perowsky. This is a languid blues that touches the soul.

"Love Walked In" introduces Hilary Gardner with a fine vocal. A pleasant timbre plus singing in tune makes it work nicely....Nancy Kelly would swing this song like a pendulum at warp speed, however.

This ensemble is jazz at its best. Top notch arrangements and first class players are but two of the reasons that this band is hotter than Louisiana grits.

This group is a diverse aggregation with one purpose in mind, they aim to please and they achieve it with remarkable facility and God given artistry....

Mike Longo, Diz is smiling somewhere like only he can at this extraordinary presentation.

For true jazz aficionados who appreciate the legacy Bird and Dizzy laid on us, this is the music for you.
