Now a triple threat performer, Lucky excels on vocals, guitar, and keyboards including the Wurlitzer electric piano and the venerable Hammond B-3. The new CD treats us to a soulstruck rendition of Bobbie Gentry's "Ode To Billy Joe" done instrumentally on the B-3 and electric piano. Peterson is joined by Blue Thumb labelmate, Joe Louis Walker, on another country transformation of "Funny How Time Slips Away".
The leader's flaming blues guitar is outstanding and Lucky's "Wah-wah" riffs will not soon be forgotten. His switch-hitting keyboard/guitar talent was recognized by such stars as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Mavis Staples, B.B. King, Little Milton and Albert Collins. After years as a sideman, Lucky came "up front" to lead his own group and recorded for Alligator Records in the 80s.
This new CD includes a dozen fine tracks and I'll mention just a few that stood out in my opinion.......The Other Side, Ask Me Nothing 'Bout The Blues, Seduction, Ta' Ta' You and Tribute To Luther Allison.
This is really very fine contemporary blues!
