I Am by Thilo Martinho

Cosmopolitan composer and musician Thilo Martinho’s music legacy lay in his family roots. His mother, a well-known concert singer, greatly influenced Martinho who begin piano lessons at seven. He added bass, drums and guitar to his arsenal when he was a teenager. In 1985 Martihno moved to Spain and worked there as a flamenco guitarist in Sevilla and Cadiz. Ten years later, a genetically caused brain bleeding left him in a wheelchair. Nevertheless, his guitar was the impetus that made him walk again. Since then, music also became his way of healing.

Thilo Martinho’s idiosyncrasy honours his Latin roots every now and then. In this release he reveals those rhythms that are coupled with Brazilian bossa nova as well as with songs in English and German.... and it works!

The album showcases a resplendent handiwork in which the complete rhythms are whirling within the Latin jazz idioms. Martinho astounds us with swing, passion and candle light. The album debuts with "I’m" in which the voicings are round and flexible. "Wie Dass Wasser" is a piece of art impressed with gravity and weaving musical textures, more sensual than intellectual. Martinho word rendition of Mulligan’s "Roam & Ride" is brilliant and fetching, marked with miscellanea of Brazilian jazz patterns. This album is richly resonant and without a doubt very well-constructed. It will certainly enthrall inspiration to Latin jazz lovers. Recommended....
