Ricardo Silveira and Luiz Avellar have come together to produce an enchanting, soulful, daring and exciting CD. I absolutely enjoy listening and reviewing such a magnificent work of art. Recorded live at Teatro Do Leblon, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil as part of the "Grandes Encontros (Great Encounters)" Concert series. This CD is a tribute to the music of Milton Nascimento. The CD is composed of ten tracks, all of which combine an influence of Brazilian jazz, smooth jazz, and blues. My favorite track on this CD is Para Lennon E McCartney (For Lennon and McCartney); this song is hip and soulful, yet beautiful and breathtaking. The sound of the acoustic string guitar is so strong and rhythmic that you sense the connection between Silveira and his music, and Avellar could not have been more perfect on the acoustic piano, you can literally hear every key.
Ricardo Silveira is one of Brazils most admired jazz players; he has performed with great jazz musicians such as Herbie Mann, Sonny Fortune and Jon Hassell. Most recently Silveira has been touring with his band in both the US and Brazil.
Luiz Avellar is a renowned virtuoso pianist, composer and arranger, he has toured a number of European cities, the US and Canada coast-to-coast as a part of Milton Nascimento’s band. He has arranged and played keyboards in Djavan's L.A. as well as produced the album "Luz," with Stevie Wonder, and other renowned American musicians.
These two musicians have managed to fuse together a great tribute to the works of Milton Nascimento. There is no doubt that this is a must have jazz CD. I absolutely enjoyed this project.
