Blue Muse by Kenny Burrell

Kenny Burrell has a winner on his hands with his BLUE MUSE collection. This CD showcases the master guitarist's stylings and is full of fine jazz musings. Burrell also sings, and his voice is enjoyable. His vocal take on Thelonious Monk's "'Round Midnight" is excellent.

If you like the music of Kenny Burrell, or if new to his recent work, BLUE MUSE is an excellent listening experience for the jazz audience. There are 12 songs in the collection, some of them composed by Kenny Burrell. Among the songs are found "Mark I," "My Friend Ray" ( a tribute to the late bass genius Ray Brown), "On Wings of the Spirit," the highly sensitive and romantic "Then I Met You," "It's No Time To Be Blue," "Blue In Green," the memorable "Blue Muse," Duke Ellington's "Solitude," "3/4 Of The House," "'Round Midnight," "Habiba," and "Blue Guitar Blues." Each song will find a ready listening audience for different reasons. Each song showcases the skills and stylings of the musicians. Tom Ranier gives us some fine piano stylings. The musicians are topnotch, and all solo work is rich and varied.

If you want to surprise a friend with fine guitar work by a master of the instrument, give them this collection by Kenny Burrell. There is a blending of styles which entertains, a sense of straight-ahead classic with blues and contemporary jazz making it one of the best guitar CD releases available by Kenny Burrell. BLUE MUSE is guitar jazz at its finest, and Kenny Burrell in top form.
