Dreams Do Come True by Janine Alondres

Janine Alondres has a great voice and knowledge of jazz standards. Her debut CD Dreams Do Come True presents some of the classics done in a contemporary style, but not too contemporary. Alondres says she is inspired by the likes of legendary jazz vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn and Nancy Wilson. However, she also has the pop stylings of Dionne Warwick and Barbara Streisand and the contemporary jazz sensitivity of Diane Krall and Diane Schurr.

Dreams Do Come True features classics like How High the Moon, Misty, The Very Thought of You, Summertime, When Sunny Gets Blue, I Wish You Love and God Bless the Child. However, the difference is that Alondres brings a fresh view to each song. Instead of using big band arrangements, Alondres uses contemporary arrangements that help to relate these classics to a younger audience. We all know that these songs will be around for years to come, but Alondres makes them relateable to today's musical taste.

Janine Alondres knows what she wants and gets it in Dreams Do Come True. There are a few songs that hit the mark better than others, but overall, this CD helps to bridge the gap between those who believe in a traditional style and those that like a more contemporary style. I hope that Alondres' next release will show her versatility. When Dreams Come True shows one side of Alondres and I hope she has many different sides.
