I Was There by Roger Kellaway

What deep, introspective, treatment jazz pianist Roger Kellaway gives to his songs in his new CD project, 'I Was There.' In a major way, this becomes (by default), a collaboration between Roger, & film star Kevin Spacey who portrays Bobby Darin in an upcoming film, in that both Roger and Spacey play & appear @ various venues across the country respectively. I'm from the Bobby Darin era, & I can hear both the swing & pathos in Kellaway's playing as he expresses Darin's music. This is both a formidable and ambitious effort of solid solo jazz piano, delivered strongly by a seasoned veteran. Kellaway's groove is impeccable. His ideas are both intelligent & ebullient. We easily enter into a (his) musical dialogue, caught up within his wonderful sense of musical dynamics..........& neither player nor listener is overshadowed.Aaaaah, the nostalgia of it all....
