Kicks Are For Kids by Elias Haslanger

Saxophonist Elias Haslanger leads a fine group including Frederick Sanders, piano, Edwin Livingston, bass, J.J. Johnson, drums and Tito Carillo, trumpet. Special guest, Ellis Marsalis, is featured at the keyboard on two tunes, "Just Squeeze Me" and "Eugene and Marie".

With the exception of "Just Squeeze Me", all tunes are originals by Haslanger, Livingston and Johnson. This little band really cooks as it delves into bop and mainstream jazz while maintaining the rhythms of today. Elias was voted Best Horn player at the 1997 Austin Music Awards. As on his other albums, Haslanger does not hog the spotlight and everyone gets a "kick at the can".
This is a fun recording for jazz fans of all ages.
