Nini Green by Virginia Mayhew

Virginia Mayhew makes here debut as a leader on her new release, "Nini Green" playing with both inspiration and technical foundation. Virginia showcases her writing talents with five great original pieces that are wonderfully well-developed compositions that will impress the lover of great jazz standards. Bringing along an all-star lineup of sidemen this new release flows right on through with great symmetry and balance among its players.

On Higgenbotham's "Good Morning Heartache", the group tours this classic favorite at just the right peaceful pace to bring out its true heart and soul. Mayhew plays the lyrical line with such great meaning and conviction while Kenny Barron breaks in with a breath-taking piano solo that brings clear meaning to the song.
