Summertimes by Franck Amsallem

Franck Amsallem has what every musician strives for, uniqueness and an individual style.

"I Got Rhythm" goes into orbit with a clever arrangement of this mother of all tunes which is given new life by Amsallem's fine piano solo. Drummer Joe Chambers handles the speedy arrangement with no unnecessary fuss or clutter and the bass of Johannes Weidenmuller keeps time like an olympic stopwatch.

"Summertime" showcases the futuristic blues side of Amsallem as he creates a ballet of ideation.

"Bud Will Be Back Shortly" is an ode to the genius of Bud Powell. The dreamlike, almost wistful quality of Powell's style is captured magnificently by Amsallem. It is eerily reminiscent of Bud's phrasing to the point of indescribable sweetness.

This ensemble offers new meaning to trio jazz and if that is the aim, it is accomplished beyond expectations.
