Whats Going On by Everette Harp

To this day there are very few artists in the R&B industry that touch the soul of social issues and global problems as Marvin Gaye did in the early 70's. Marvin Gaye was more about reaching the soul of people with his music rather than just their pocketbooks. As we can see today in the music industry, just about anyone can sell albums with a great beat and a catchy rhythm. However, Marvin Gaye made bold statements in his lyrics that were so true about the social ills of life in the 70's and to our dismay many even hold true today.

Everette Harp brings Marvin Gaye's chart topping album "What's Going On" to the jazz arena with the same great feelings and depth that Gaye intended to deliver. Harp along with sideman Doc Powell give great reverence to Gaye's original version of the song "What's Going On" while breathing new heart-pumping life into this song. Powell's great string pickin' rhythms along with Harp's strong smooth blares of the sax, make for a memorable tune. On my favorite track, "Mercy Mercy Me" Harp features two of my personal favorite male vocalists, Kenny Loggins and Howard Hewitt. These two vocalists mix to form a refined sound that Marvin himself would be proud of. If you are like me and had a great love for Marvin's original album, you will enjoy this one too!
