Be Cool by Dawn Aitken

The provocative cover art on this CD suggests a torrid vocal trip within, and the message is confirmed with the evocative style of Miss Dawn Aitken. Sultry and sensual is the byword of this recording. She is clearly the artistic centerpiece in this musical endeavor.

"The Nearness Of You" is languid in form and hot in substance. Aitken wrings the bottom out of the notes on this ballad. She spins the lyrics beautifully and the melody is artfully adhered to with a few twists and turns that only add to the sensitivity of this sweet tune.

"Be Cool" an admonishment for the hip from Joni Mitchell by way of Dawn Aitken and delivered in first class style.

"Love Potion #9" Funky blues reign supreme as Miss Aitken smokes everybody including her own accompaniment.

"Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me" This tune, originally 'Concerto For Cootie' is brightly done with a new feel. Nice sense of swing.

Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen would be pleased with the treatment given to "Over The Rainbow" This popular classic is given the respect that it deserves and some added substance as well.

"Until The Real Thing Comes Along" You will forget the many witticisms engendered by the title of this song, and drift into the smoldering mood created by Aitken.

Dawn Aitken has selected great compositions and she performs them with a lushness that is not easily forgotten. Within the smoky seductiveness there is an air of sophistication that juxtaposes brilliantly with her intonation and languorous phrases.
