Idendtifiable by Yokoyama Aoki Wong & Chan

This outing from these four gentlemen could have benefited from a group name. Something as simple as the Unit would have worked. The group performs like one tight unit. Their group interplay on songs like The Holloween Song and Zoo's Blues is fresh and imaginative. But the lack of a propulsive drive or constant rhythm is what makes this disc a little hard to follow at times. The bass is suppose to be the foundation, the glue that holds it all together. Intentionaly, that's not what always happens.

Doug Yokoyama seems to be the nucleus, on alto and soprano. Instruments seem to wind and dance their way around his themes. This is done quite affectively on most songs. Giving the disc a light tentionless quality. Something rare in music today.
