Jo by Satoko Fujii Orchestra

With Satoko Fujii on piano, and a large group of guest musicians, the orchestra launches into a wide-ranging CD of jazz improvisational and free jazz selections including such selections as "Jo," "Kyu," Okesa/Yansado," "Wakerasuka," "Reminiscence," "Jasper" (which is a delightful little jazz adventure for the listeners to play several times for its subtle tone images!), "Around the Corner," and "Sola."

Oscar Noriega performs on saxophone and clarinet and Mike Sim gives some fine sounds with his remarkable baritone saxophone. The music also contains some revealing and intimate Japanese folk structures which adds to its overall elegance.

This well-performed CD will appeal especially to those who like free jazz with stated motifs. Excellent. There is also a sense of wit present, and the humor is oftentimes ironic. Aaron Alexander performs on drums, along with Briggan Krauss on alto saxophone.
