Scrapbook by William Parker

The Thirsty Ear label continues to release music that is both fresh and imaginative. Scrapbook by bassist William Parker is another fine example of what happens when a trio of gifted musicians get together and record with no restrictions. The music is as Parker describes it, "a scrapbook of images and memories collected from childhood until now". The recording quality is excellent. Every instrument is clear and easy to follow.

The songs may not be easy to follow own their own. This is not music you can come in the middle on. In order for it all to make sense, it has to be listened to from beginning to end. Each song weaves its way into the next until the story has been told. This is a must have for any Parker fan. But also a good window for anyone interested in what the present state of avante garde sounds like.
