Windogur by Lena Willemark

Lena sings her own original compositions on this, her second Amigo release. Most lyrics are in the Swedish regional language of Älvdalen. The album title, Windogur ,translates to English as "window". Many of Lena’s "windows" appear to originate in folk music and immigrate very well into her freeform jazz treatment.

This is not a recording that will generate mass appeal among those who may have their roots in more traditional jazz fields. However, free jazz enthusiasts will revel in the beauty of Ms.Willemark’s exceptional vocal ability. The piano style of Bobo Stenson are, at times, quite traditional.

By my own admission, I generally do not appreciate free jazz but must admit that I have enjoyed Windogur and played it three times. Each subsequent audition seems to reveal something I had previously missed.

I highly recommend this CD to Freeform fans but must caution mainstream enthusiasts that this may not be for you.
