Inner Voice by Stuart Hart

Stuart Hart's sound is a mixture of Tommy Bolin, Steve Morse, and some of the other great guitarists who dominated during the late 70's early 80's. Stuart strikes a balance between the hard edge style with a flowing melodic approach.

"Running Out Of Words" is an original of Hart's that begins with a driving funk based groove. Tony Liberto's sax melds with Hart's guitar to state the melody before a brief bridge to introduce Tony's sax solo. This man can play. The band offers support with Mark St. Pierre's chops and rhythmic pulse laying the foundation. Hart's guitar takes over into a dreamy solo with nicely defined lines. I was able to hear a bit of Dicky Betts chord progressions in Hart's playing. One gets the impression that Stuart has listened to many styles of music. Gary Grainger is one of those finger picking funk masters. Great tone and structure. The band joins in for a final go at the melody before ending it all.

Drummer Dennis Chambers has a chance to stretch out on "The Green Pedal" and demonstrate why he is one of the top in demand drummers out there. Laying down a solid foundation for Stuart to glide with some striking finger picking. George Hazelrigg's piano solo adds another dimension to this group effort before Dennis takes a call and response solo with a tip of the hat to Billy Cobham. All the while, Hart is on top of things with his unique sound.

"Right From The Right" begins with Marks march like drumming blended nicely with Craig Lee's bass. Stuart and the rest of the band join in for the melody and what follows. This is a rather smooth vehicle that sails throughout. Gary Thomas takes a solo with Craig offering a counter melody to Gary's playing.

Stuart is a guitarist with a mission. This effort proves that he can not only write melodies that stick, but his abilities to play not only with the group but from within the group, while at the same time offering ideas that can only stimulate the band to pursue a solid foundation for Stuart's need to express himself in his own unique way.
