Live At The Baked Potato, Volume 2 by Various Artists

Recorded at the famous Baked Potato jazz club in Hollywood, the lineup says it all. Guitarist Jeff Richman put together a series of dates feturing all-star lineups. This is L.A.’s fusion elite in a live setting. "Kamaroon" is a reggaeish fusion tune driven by Abe Laboriel’s bubbling bass and Vinnie Calaiuta’s amazing drumming. Against the rock solid bass, Calaiuta performs his usual gymnastic rhythms that leave you astounded. Steve Tavaglione’s sax and Richman’s guitar groove out on top. This stuff cooks!

"On the Trail" is a lighter, swing tune featuring Russel Ferrante’s piano. "Leap Of faith," with trumpeter Jeff Beal, works out on a funky dark groove. Drummer Dave Weckl joins in on "Let This Be The One" and heavy weight skinsman Simon Phillips is featured on the old Jeff Beck burner, "Star Cycle." The pace is taken a bit slower, but funkier, with a heavy feel from the guitar and rhythm section. Gershwin’s "I Got Rhythm" is played by a trio of Richman, Yellowjacket’s bassist Jimmy Haslip, and drummer Danny Gottlieb.
