Be Cool Be Kind by Carla Helmbrecht

This is Carla Helmbrecht's first recording in about six years. Our readers will probably remember her "One For My Baby" CD in 1994. The newest release will hit the shelves in January but is available on the web today.

Carla has an exciting vocal style that is very easy to fall for completely. She kicks off the set with the title tune, which she wrote with pianist Peter Horvath and follows up with a nice selection of standards, some beautiful tunes by Carroll Coates and another of her own titled "Easy Love".

Ms. Helmbrecht is a truly honest performer and, with the help of a great group, holds the listener in the palm of her hand. I'll list each member along with their credentials.

Ernie Watts (Charlie Haden/ Rolling Stones) and I liked his great albums on vinyl including "Planet Love". Joe LaBarbera (Bill Evans / Tony Bennett),Peter Horvath (Joe Henderson / Aretha Franklin),Clay Jenkins (Stan Kenton / Basie/ Buddy Rich), Larry Koonse (Cleo Laine / Mel Torme),Tom Warrington (Stan Getz / Hank Jones),Michael Spiro (Ella Fitzgerald / Gilberto Gil),

This is a classically elegant presentation by a fabulous jazz singer, backed by the cream of today's instrumentalists. This is not an item to be missed.
