Hooked on Romance by Renee Doruyter

Rotterdam, Holland, native Renee Doruyter presents a second project, "Hooked on Romance," featuring standards by Gershwin, Cole Porter, Lerner and Loewe, etc. Although Doruyter is well-known in Canada, where her family eventually emigrated, she is known in the U.S. for an eclectic repertoire of songs from the era were jazz was the music of the day.

"Hooked on Romance" contains original material by Doruyter, pianist Miles Black and bass player Rick Kilburn and marks Doruyter's debut as a singer/songwriter. Tunes such as "Touched by Love and the self-titled track present a smooth and seductive sound and a swinging way with a lyric.

Doruyter names Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Anita O'Day, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Carmen McRaye, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis and others as some of the musical influences in her life. Initially starting as a pop singer, it is apparent that Doruyter has found her true gift, and her band is a part of that success. As a listener, you find yourself hooked as Doruyter shows her love of jazz music.
