I Think It’s Going To Rain Today by Curtis Stigers

This is as hip as it gets, there is no thin gruel here. Curtis Stigers gets it all in this album. He shows a side that is as dusky as a thousand midnights in the ballads and he sings the blues like he was born to do just that.

"That's Alright" is a jaunty excursion into Arthur Crudup's epistle. Stigers scats and swings this number like it has never been done before. Nice solos by all plus a dynamite vocal make it work like mash on a hot day and is just as potent.

"Everybody Cryin' Mercy" Mose Allison's slow drag blues has new life infused into it as Stigers sashays through this number with down home elegance, he parlays Allison's lyrics into his own strutting style.

In the fashion of Georgie Fame, Stigers gets it all and then some in Cy Coleman's "It Amazes Me" This tune has all the ingredients necessary to make it the classic that it is, great interpretation, super melody and above all a stylistic rendition that is flawless.

The bonus track "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" is a home run in any league including the Epworth League. Curtis Stigers voice texture suits this tune like magic. He scats with ease (and correctly) getting right to the heart of hip and then some.A fine ensemble coupled with a superlative performance by Curtis Stigers makes this album as hot as Southern baked grits. It gets no better.
