One of Lindstrom's influences is Kate Bush. Bush is a master of creating a setting. A multi dimensional aural landscape where her voice melds into the piece. Lindstrom captures this spirit on the unforgettable This Time. Sure to be covered by other artists, Lindstrom's plaintive yet controlled expression gels with the rest of the band. There is balance as well as superb arranging from Lindstrom. Of note, is Pyysalo's effective use of the vibes to capture the feeling.
Reasons is a simple piece featuring Karlsson's delicate piano. We have an opportunity to listen to another dimension to Lindstrom's voice. Her range and projection. Beautifully recorded and performed, these two work so well as a duo, conveying the raw feeling and intent of the piece, in a laid back but direct manner.
Listen to what she does with a Burt Bacharach tune. Trains And Boats And Planes features Lindstrom hanging emotion on every note. Once again, the band serves up another framework for her to create and express as only she knows how.
I Run is a sympathetic ballad with heartfelt emotion and longing. Sailing through the memories and thoughts of the moment, Lindstrom's desperate plea and insecurities conjure up visions of something lost, but at the same time, something learned. Full bodied arrangements like this feel like a warm wave slowly covering your body on a quiet beach.
Time to get Closer. Moller's intro is direct and urgent. Lindstrom's soft, intimate vocals excite one minute and sooth the next. Phrasing and control wash over this enticing number. Again, we are brought into Lindstrom's world without even knowing it.
Joni Mitchell's influence shines throughout That Sorry School. Reminiscent of Mitchell's Coyote days, Lindstrom shows us that her influences run deep. Svensson and Spering's tasty offerings make this one of the most enjoyable selections.
Lindstrom sings in such a way as to invite the listener into her own world. Like waking up on a warm summer day, welcomed by birds singing. It's a world full of depth, dimension and beauty. Production and sound are first rate. A refreshing work of art, listening to Walk not only invites repeated listening but may well become a classic for years to come. Lindstrom's silky smooth delivery, as well as insightful arranging make this one of the top recordings of 2003.
