Generoso Que Bueno Toca Usted by Generoso Jimenez

The domination of the music industry by the pubescent, hard body, under thirty crowd has been a great loss for the culture as a whole. Although it is known that artists can remain vital ,creative and productive well into their 80's as witnessed by Casals, Picasso , Horowitz, and of course the venerable Buena Vista social club, older artists are for the most part thrown into obscurity and their talents and wisdom loss forever. This is a loss comparable to the extinction of exotic species and burning of the rain forests. We are left with art created by those who have never faced their mortality or experienced the vistas and majesty aging brings.

Trombonist Juan Pablo Torres has prevented yet another loss by resurrecting the music of The Father of Latin Trombone, Generoso Jimenez. Legendary as the arranger, conductor, composer and trombonist of the Classic Beny More Big band, Generoso has not recorded since his 1965 release of El Trombone Majadero. With apparently no loss of skill or inspiration he composed and arranged the total project and attracted some of the top stars of Cuban music anxious to lend their support and love. Arturo Sandoval added his tracks in Miami and Paquito de Rivera recorded his in new York. Eventually the project included 28 musicians including two other trombonists from the Jimenez family, Generoso's daughter and brother.

This is a classic Cuban sound that takes you in a time capsule to the elegant ballrooms of 1950's Havana where elegant musicians played while beautiful couples glided through the warm nights. Generoso said he wanted to recreate the sound of the Beny More Orchestra but there is something else here. Something a lifetime of seasoning and experience brings. In his music you hear the pure joy that only those who have experienced true heartbreak understand, and a musical mastery that 30 years of silence did not touch.
