Blue Patches by Michael Patches Stewart

Blue Patches is the solo CD by Michael Patches Stewart. It's a collection of jazz standards but Patches has made them sound right for the 90's.This CD is so smooth that friends who aren't jazz-lovers are asking What are you listening to ?My favorite is of course, the Miles Davis classic Pfrancing. Fly Me to the Moon is the only track with vocals and includes appearances by Lenny White, Jacky Terrasson and Charles Fambrough. Gerald Albright also appears on some of the CD tracks. I didn't hesitate to pick up this CD because I've heard Patches before. When I used to catch Al Jarreau's shows about 10 years ago, Patches was always in the line-up. I found out that Patches joined Marcus Miller's Band when they played SOB's here in NYC awhile back. Of course they played Tutu, which Marcus wrote for Miles. Patches really kicked on that number and the rest of audience seemed to enjoy it as much as I did. I count Patches as one of the most talented trumpet players on the scene today. If you haven't heard him before, you should know that this CD is only one side of his impressive abilities.
