Inter-Alia & Comin Back Around by The Marcus Johnson Project

The majority of my friends know how critical I am regarding jazz artist, and their latest releases. I live by the adage, "You are only as good as your current CD". Prime Example: Fattburger. Their CD's..Sugar, All Natural Ingredients, On a Roll, and Living Large. All of these are the BOMB. However, Fattburger.Their current CD...Fattburger.Com...YUK! Don't waste your money. See? In the case of The Marcus Johnson Project, he's a keyboard player / local guy from Annapolis, Maryland, that you would see playing everywhere, or just hanging out, grocery shopping, getting a haircut, etc... Although i have his first CD, i never paid much attention to it, and thought the other CD's would be similar. To me, his grooves were too simple, and a novice could play them. However, after getting his last 2 CD's Inter-Alia (Amongst Other Things, 1998), and Comin' Back Around, 1999) I owe this young brother a serious apology. Both of them are the BOMB, and he is GROOVIN" HARD! Each song on both of these CD's, whether it is fast or slow, will definitely catch your attention. On the Inter-Alia CD, i especially love what he does on the songs "Morning Light": featuring Alyson Williams, and "The Neck Factor": Featuring D.C. sax icon Marshall Keyes. That song just flat out JAMMS! He even mentions my boy Glenn Douglas for teaching him how to play! (Glenn: Your CD is the Bomb TOO! Thanks to DJ TIM for the promo!) On the Comin' Back Around CD, he kicks an excellent version of Erykah Badu's "ON and ON". It will make you forget about who originally made the song. What's that child's name again? On both of these CD's i have to give credit where it is due. Marcus does a masterful job on each of them. I apologize for underestimating him, and his ability. Both of these CD's are definite MUST' for the collection, and you will probably play them to death. As a Maryland resident, you gotta give it up for our HOMEBOY. Shake his hand or give him a serious FISTDAP if you bump into him. As a jazzfan, you can't help but listen and appreciate THE MARCUS JOHNSON PROJECT. Scale of 1-10 INTER-ALIA (AMONGST OTHER THINGS) 18, and COMIN' BACK AROUND, 25.
