Quintessence - Volume Two by Stan Getz Quartet with Chet Baker

The Stan Getz Quartet with Chet Baker Quintessence-Volume Two Concord Jazz CCD 4858-2 I've waited a year for Volume Two, the second half of a rare 1983 meeting of these two giants in a live concert for Norwegian radio . It sure met my expectations. Both hornmen are in fine form on "I Remember April ",It's You or No One " and the two bop anthems-Shearing's "Conception" and Sonny's "Airegin ." Getz ' musical sensitivity is exhibited on the two extended ballads , "We'll be Together Again " and Strayhorn's farewell "Blood Count " A highlight is the short closer where the two weave their way alone through Mulligan's 'Line For Lyons "And that supportive Getz rhythm section - George Mraz, Jim McNeely and Victor Lewis! Check out the Mraz solo on "It's You " and Mc Neely's impressionistic take on " We'll Be Together "A great way to remember these jazz masters.
