The Heart of Things by John McLaughlin

This cd is loaded with wonderful music. There are only six tracks. But they average around 8 minutes. Some of these songs defy the term jazz. But most music these days defy the category given. Fallen Angels is another one of my favorites. These guy really play well together. Saxophonist Gary Thomas leads a group of his own. Dennis Chambers is one of the buisiest drummers around, and Jim Beard and Matthew Garrison make some fine contributions. Actually this group has been working together for a while. I just recently picked up on this cd. But this group has toured extensively here in the states and in europe. I was fortune enough to catch this group when they came to UCLA last year. Anyone who has heard the cd "The Promise" will like this one. The direction that Johns' music has taken the last couple of years, has convinced me that the future of "jazz" is in fine hands.
