I just heard and bought (at retail - close friends know what this means) To Ella With Love by Ann Hampton Calloway (3 great names for a jazz singer!) and it completely blew me away. It was the freshest NEW sound in female vocals I've heard in years. Even though she does tunes that have been performed (possibly to death) by Ella and others and sings them in a somewhat traditional jazz style, she still manages to be original. Cool, man! Well worth the bread I just got it 2 nights ago and I've listened to it six times! Guest soloist include Cyrus Chestnut (from my hometown - Baltimore) Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride and Larry Nash. She also does the theme from The Nanny it was her composition (at Fran Drescher's request) and was chosen to sing it (again by Fran, I believe) over The Man Tran.
