Body and Soul by Rick Braun

The other day at work, another of my Jazz crazed Co-workers, Mike Cobb called me into his office and said, "You've gotta listen to this!" Mike and I are alike in the fact that we love to turn people on to good Jazz music. What I heard blaring from Mike's computer speakers was the ever so distinctive trumpet playing sound of, Rick Braun. I have heard a few select cuts on the radio, however the "Whole" CD is magnificent. In my opinion Rick comes close to a style like the late one and only Miles Davis. Whenever you heard Miles playing, there was no question about whom it was. Rick has developed this attribute in his trumpet playing as well. His trumpet has a particular sound that I think you will get hooked on just as I have. My favorite song, "Chelsea" (No bias just because it's my God Daughter's name) has a light airy but rhythmic melody that takes you to a new level of relaxation. The other great tune is the first track, "Notorious". It has an upbeat "Jazzy" sound that will brighten up anyone's day. Rick has definitely put together a "must buy" CD for the contemporary Jazz Fan.
