Jimmy Reid Preview 2002 by Jimmy Reid

Producer/Perfomer Brian Culbertson know how to find and nurish the newest artists in smooth jazz. He helped saxophonist Steve Cole become a household word in smooth jazz through his sense of producing and bringing out the best in the performer. Culbertson has done it again by helping saxophonist Jimmy Reid release his first mini-length CD. Reed is the sax player featured in Culbertson's track "Get it On" and produced the first track "Cool Vive" on this five-track release, which gives us a taste of Reed's upcoming full CD project tenatively titled For the Family. In this mini-release, Reid features three of his originals, varying the tempo to show his versatility in writing and in influence. All three tracks are solid and show the diverse sides of what kinds of music influenced his life and what he feels comfortable performing. He is as good with a smooth groove as he is with a souful ballad "The Song with No Name." The release also features an original Christmas song and his take on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" which is a more slow and traditional take on that holiday classic. Reid also played keyboards and produced four of the five tracks on the CD. Reid has a bright future in smooth jazz, and from this sample of his upcoming full release, he could be start the next wave of smooth jazz performers who will bring the genre to the next level.
