Laid Back by Doc Powell

Strong, sultry, and very satisfying is how I would describe Doc's latest CD. Doc plays a classic Gibson electric guitar which he can pick clean note after clean note. In my opinion Doc has a style somewhat similar to one of my favorite modern day guitar players, Norman Brown. However, Doc likes to strum and stroke his guitar for a very unique and extraordinary sound of his very own. Doc's exceptional guitar playing and fluent transitions take you deep into the song and keeps your ears on the edge of their seat. Doc's background music puts each and every song together with utter completeness and leaves you wanting nothing more.

On his latest release, Doc gets some help from a few of his Jazz peers, such as Boney James on soprano sax, Stanley Clarke on bass, Bobby Lyle on piano, Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright on tenor sax, Shelia E on percussion and longtime no hear from, Patrice Rushen on keyboards. I know you will unequivocally enjoy Doc's note-perfect efforts on "Laid Back". Go buy it and lay back and take in the mood.
