Radio Contact by Acoustic Alchemy

The guitar duo of Acoustic Alchemy has returned to their acoustic roots with Radio Contact. After coming out with a release that earned Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale a Gramm nomination for AArt where they experimented with a more polished and fuller sound, they decided to return to a more scaled back production. Radio Contact foots the bill for those who wanted the emphasis back on the acoustic nylon and steel string guitars.

Even though they did come back to their acoustic roots, that didn't mean that they didn't want to try something different. This time guitarist/producer Chuck Loeb helped produce four of the tracks on Radio Contact and Loeb helped Carmichael and Gilderdale bring out the best in the acoustic combination. No Messin", the first single release from the CD, is a Loeb produced gem that shows why the original concept of Acoustic Alchemy continues to bring that unique style that only two acoustic guitars can give.

Also, Radio Contact is the first time that Acoustic Alchemy features a song with a lead vocal. Jo Harrup, who has worked with Miles Gilderdale on a outside project, performs the song Little Laughter, a down tempo song that flows very well with the guitars of Greg Carmichael and Gilderdale. Harrup meshes well with the two guitarists and makes her feel like she is already an integral part of Acoustic Alchemy.

For those who have seen Acoustic Alchemy in person, you will be able to hear the people who have backed up the duo for many years. Drummer Greg Grainger and bassist Frank Felix are here and they enhance the production with percussionist Mario Argandona. Even Chuck Loeb brings his great electric guitar work in for the ride. For those who were impressed with their last studio CD AArt and got hooked through that CD, you will be even more impressed with Radio Contact. Sometimes you find out that less can be more, too.
