Gershwin Songbook: Hyman Variations by Dick Hyman

For those who savor and enjoy the work of the great American composer, George Gershwin, this is one CD that should be in their library! In fact, from a historical jazz perspective, it is a documented fact, that George Gershwin oftentimes performed his songs at various get-to-togethers with friends, and each time gave an entirely different and very brilliant interpretation of any given song he had composed, so great were his gifts at the piano!

Gershwin did leave behind some interpretations for his songs, most notably in the music publication titled "The Gershwin Songbook." In this CD, noted Gershwin interpreter, jazz pianist Dick Hyman, brings new life and new performance standards to this work by first performing the song as Gershwin wrote it down, then follows it after a short interlude with his own interpretation of that song! It is a rich and varied listening experience, one that will intrigue new Gershwin fans and totally delight old fans, too! One of the best solo piano recordings of George Gershwin music in existence. A very entertaining look at the always enjoyable music of George Gershwin. Pianist Dick Hyman is a jazz performer for all seasons! 18 Selections, including "I Got Rhythm," "Swanee," "The Man I Love," "Oh, Lady Be Good," "Liza," "Strike Up The Band."
