In A Dream by Cole Broderick

Some of our readers will already be familiar with Cole Broderick’s albums. During the 90s, the upstate New York pianist turned out four CDs dedicated to his hometown. The classically-trained pianist paid tribute to the seasons as experienced in Saratoga Springs. The series earned a Critic’s Choice Award from Billboard.

His jazz quartet followed up the Seasons Of Saratoga with Zone in 2001. March 24, 2006 will herald the release of his sixth CD titled In A Dream. The new recording showcases thirteen original compositions exhibiting the many moods of Cole Broderick.

In A Dream finds the pianist in a fine solo performance. Broderick has a style that will be appreciated by fans of Vince Guaraldi and Ramsey Lewis. While he sometimes ventures into a contemplative approach, he serves up a nice mix of both the funky and the cool. We liked Cole Broderick’s two fisted style and his soulful attack. His admiration for Andre Previn shows up on his moderate tempo piece titled "Go!." "Jenny" is another gem and the pianist’s ability to gently swing a ballad comes to the forefront. "Francis Fudge" is an up-tempo blues that gets your toes tapping.

Cole Broderick can be seen at his regular gig at the Chez Sophie bistro in Saratoga Springs every Tuesday. Samples of his recordings are available at artist’s website.
